UpEnergy Scales Renewable Electric Cooking in Tanzania with €2 Million MCFA Investment

With nearly 80% of Tanzania's electricity coming from renewable sources, we're thrilled to announce a significant expansion in electric cooking access across the country through our operations in Tanzania. This shift from biomass-dependent methods to clean, electric cooking technology is supported by a EUR 2 million investment from the Modern Cooking Facility for Africa (MCFA), established and managed by Nefco - the Nordic Green Bank.

Our electric cookers, supplied by PowerUP Uganda, not only reduce cooking times by up to 60% compared to traditional biomass stoves but are also customized for local cooking habits, featuring a bespoke user display tailored to local cuisine and equipped with in-built metering for accurate usage monitoring.

This transition offers families economic and health benefits by removing the indoor air pollution associated with traditional cooking methods and significantly reduces annual fuel costs.
