As the New Year gets underway, we wanted to send a heartfelt thank you from all of us at UpEnergy and share a few goals for the New Year.
2022 was a year that saw UpEnergy launch innovative new products and projects. We also deepened collaborations with long-term partners while launching exciting projects with a range of respected new partners we feel fortunate to work with. We are deeply grateful for these collaborations. They allow us to deliver the climate, health, and income impacts that we work towards every day in the eight countries where we now operate.
A few 2022 highlights:
UpEnergy is now implementing projects in 8 countries with pilots in 3 more.
We distributed 400,000+ clean cooking and water purification products during the year impacting the lives of more than 2 million people.
We celebrated the milestone of 1 million clean technology products distributed across Africa. These devices have prevented more than 3 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent from being emitted and generated 3 million verified emissions reductions.
We’ve built a strong and entrepreneurial team of 170+ employees. They work every day to better serve our clients in the countries where we operate, whilst ensuring the projects we operate exceed expectations and are monitored to the most rigorous standards.
UpEnergy also seeded the launch of Community Carbon. Read more here. Community Carbon is a new company that reinvests project revenue into additional activities that help build long-term climate and community resilience through a dedicated impact fund. This work is well underway and underscores our commitment to continued innovation that increases the impact of the work we do. Community Carbon is headquartered in Mozambique.
Jumping into 2023:
We have a lot of exciting new and innovative opportunities to tackle in 2023 that we’d love to discuss with interested partners. A few examples:
Building on the interest in Community Carbon, UpEnergy is originating additional projects designed to deliver more value to both our low-income clients and to the broader communities where we operate. Many of these projects are de-risked extensions of our current work with exciting new features.
We believe electric cooking is the viable zero-emissions technology that can eliminate the devastating health problems of indoor smoke. Following successful pilots, we are scaling up the distribution of Electric Pressure Cookers (EPCs) and seeking partnerships to bring this life saving technology to new countries.
We are launching new projects in Asia and Latin America based on geographies outside of Africa to further the impact and build on their success to date.
Our expansion is backed by a major investment in technology and systems to ensure the integrity and credibility of the emissions reductions we generate. We continue to build UpEnergy’s reputation as the leading developer of climate projects that specifically benefit the low income people who will be most affected by climate change.
Please send us a message if anything you’ve read grabs your interest or you’d like to know more. We continue to seek mission-aligned companies looking to offset on their journey towards net-zero, by supporting projects that also benefit the people most at risk from climate change. Additionally we’d love to hear from you regarding future opportunities to collaborate.
Best wishes for 2023,
The UpEnergy Team
